Born 21 March 1914 in Wolseley, Saskatchewan
Son of William & Amanda of Hessle, Yorkshire, UK

Joined the RAFVR in March 1937 #740878 (NCO)
Veteran's Affairs site says he joined in Canada
He must have gone to the UK to train
Called to active service 1 Sept. 1939
Commissioned P/O on Prob. 15 May 1940 #81636
Joined No. 3 Squadron & went right into combat
Taking part in the Battle of France
In late July, he & other members of "B" flight
- were detached to form 232 Squadron
With that unit he flew in the Battle of Britain
He returned to 3 Squadron on 10 Sept. 1940
Attached to 260 Squadron in Dec. 1940
Promoted to F/O (war sub.) effective 22 Feb. 1941
Confirmed as F/O effective 15 May 1941
Promoted to F/L (war sub.) effective 22 Feb 1942

Sent to Canada to instruct & subsequently
KiFA on 10 December 1942 at Airdrie, Alberta
Probably with LAC Harry Nixon Hall (RAF) *
They are buried beside each other at
Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Plot: Sec G, Blk 8, Lots 82 (Ford) & 83 (Hall)

Commemorated on the Battle of Britain Monument

Air Casualties

Ottawa, Dec 15 (CP) - The R.C.A.F., in its 448th casualty list of the war, today reported one man killed on active service overseas, eight missing after overseas air operations, four killed on active service in Canada and one dead from natural causes in Canada. This list, with next of kin, includes:

FORD, Ernest George, F/L, R.A.F., killed on active service in Canada.
William Ford (father), Hessle, Yorkshire, England
