BOAK, F/L William Aaron (J13413) - Distinguished Flying Cross - No.406 Squadron
Award effective 27 July 1945 as per London Gazette of that date &
AFRO 1507/45 dated 28 September 1945
Cited with Pilot F/L Philippe E. Etienne
As navigator and pilot respectively these officers have participated in many sorties. They have consistently displayed a high standard of skill and co-operation and have set a fine example of devotion to duty. In air fighting Flight Lieutenants Etienne and Boak have destroyed four enemy aircraft.

Born 26 July 1919.
Grew up in Bruno, Saskatchewan.
Home in Regina ?
Enlisted in Saskatoon, 23 July 1941.
Trained at
No.7 ITS (graduated 10 April 1942) &
No.3 AOS (graduated 14 August 1942).
Served with 406 Squadron.
Flew mainly with Phil Etienne.
But also with Russ Bannock.
After the war he left the RCAF & did some Pre-Med
at UBC, obtaining an Honours degree in Chemistry.
In 1950 with things heating up in Korea, he
Rejoined the RCAF (s/n 30716).
(Award for DFC presented 6 May 1950)
Postings included Cold Lake, North Bay (433 Sqn.),
Staff College & AFHQ.
"Retiring" 21 July 1971, he started consulting all
over the world & did that for years.
When he did finally settle down it was in Kanata, On.
Awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.
At one time he
was president of the Kanata Golf Club.
Bill passed away 1 June 2013 at the Perley *
His logbook is held at the Canada Aviation and
Space Museum in Ottawa. |
